The first in a three-part series on radio station WDEV. This segment features a conversation with three state officials who are on the front lines of the recovery from the catastrophic flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene: Sue Minter, Deputy Secretary of the Vt Agency of Transportation; Noelle MacKay, Commissioner of the Agency of Economic, Housing and Community Affairs; and David Mears, Commissioner of the Vt. Dept. of Environmental Conservation; all three are members of the Governor's Interagency Irene Recovery Coordination Team. The show opens with an intro by producer David Goodman how the Great Flood of 1927 -- Vermont's last epic natural disaster -- changed the state. The second of three specials on radio station WDEV. This segment features Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin and Vermont author and activist Bill McKibben discussing how the changing climate is affecting our politics and world.  The show opens with David Goodman interviewing University of Vermont Professor Frank Bryan about the changes that occurred in Vermont that followed the Great Flood of 1927. "Vermont After Hurricane Irene: Voices of Vermonters,", WDEV, 12/15/11
The final in a three-part series for radio station WDEV. On this segment, producer David Goodman travels along Vermont Route 100, famed as the "skier's highway," which was the epicenter of flooding during Tropical Storm Irene.  A number of towns on Rt. 100 were left completely cut off when roads washed out on August 28. We speak to a range of Vermonters affected by the floods, from the selectboard chair in Granville, to a waitresses who served free food to neighbors in Rochester, to farmers in Waitsfield and finally to residents, business owners and Rev. Peter Plagge in Waterbury. The show ends with the story of 94-year old Waterbury resident Gleason Ayers, who survived both the 1927 and 2011 floods, and his advice about overcoming disaster.
